The video explains many of the negative side effects that occur on the first Monday following the change to DST compared to the average Monday. There is a:
- 25% increase in heart attacks
- 17% increase in traffic accidents
- 6% increase in work accidents
- significant decrease in productivity
Why do we keep DST then? Studies suggest that there is increased spending during DST. The video shows that DST all year round was attempted int eh United Kingdom from 1968 to 1971 and when they did this they saw that Traffic deaths decline by 11%.
Why don’t we migrate to permanent DST. We would remove the negative consequences from switching from non-DST to DST but would also gain the economic benefits from DST.
